THE IMPACT OF PERSONALITY TRAITS ON BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1      BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Students have diverse personal values, receive and process knowledge differently, have varied personality qualities, and hence have different comprehension. It is sometimes believed that for people to be successful in their careers, they must have a mix of personality traits. Education, Researchers and psychologists have been working on this for a long time (Isner, 2001). Looking for a small group of characteristics that can predict student behavior patterns and their link to academic success (John, 2000). The word "business" literally means "to be active." However, the phrase "business" encompasses all human activities that are concerned with making money. To put it another way, business is an activity in which a group of people produce or exchange goods and services on a regular basis for mutual benefit or profit. "Business" does not include products and services produced or acquired for personal use. Business education include instructing students on the core ideas and practices of the field. This happens on a number of occasions. During their high school years, around 38% of students enroll in one or more business courses, ranging from secondary education to higher education or university education. Hubert is a character in the film Hubert (2002). Business education, according to Herricks (2000), is any sort of training that both directly and indirectly prepares a businessman for his profession. Business education, according to Harms and Stehr (2001), is the total activity that is planned, organized, and developed in order to prepare youths. For the country's responsible economic engagement. Business education is an important aspect of a person's overall education since it prepares them for a broad grasp of business. It also helps the teacher prepare for business classes. According to Uwukhor (2005), business education is critical for a country's economic, social, and industrial growth. To enable a person to find worthwhile work or to utilize their education to generate work for themselves and others. Business education, as one of the vocational education options, has been around since the dawn of time. It assists individuals in acquiring marketable or acceptable abilities in a certain field. Refused to create possibilities for employment (Ogunsola, 20140). Personality may be described as the totality of an individual's behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, and values. How we adjust to our surroundings and behave in certain situations is determined by our personality traits. No two people have the same personality qualities. A person's personality is made up of a combination of physical and mental features that represent how he or she appears, thinks, behaves, and feels (Medvedev, 2003). The phrase 'personality traits' refers to long-lasting features that show themselves in a certain pattern of behavior in a range of contexts. It has to deal with people's unique variances in behavior, cognition, and emotion (Goldberg 2001). Openness to new experiences, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism are all personality qualities. The degree of intellectual curiosity, inventiveness, and a liking for new experiences is known as openness to new experiences. A person has a need for novelty and diversity. It may also relate to a person's level of creativity or independence, as well as a predilection for a certain type of work. Over a rigorous regimen, a variety of tasks are performed. Conscientiousness is the inclination to be ordered and trustworthy, to practice self-discipline, to work diligently toward a goal, and to favor planned over spontaneous behavior. Individuals that are extraverted are more likely to seek stimulation in the company of others. Ewen(2010). Neuroticism is the propensity to experience negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, melancholy, and vulnerability quickly, whereas agreeableness is the inclination to be empathetic and cooperative towards people rather than suspicious and combative (Popsil, 2008). The degree of emotional stability is often referred to as neuroticism (Vasek, 2010). Academic accomplishment may be defined as the extent to which a student, instructor, or institution has fulfilled their educational objectives (Sinner, 2006). It can also refer to classroom disciplines as well as extracurricular activities. Excellence in sports, behavior, confidence, communication, skills, timeliness, assertiveness, and art culture, among other things, are all part of it. Students' academic success may be impacted by their parents' financial condition and level of living, the educational institution's geographic location, and the variety of student profiles. In the same class, as well as the child's personality.

1.2    STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

It has been discovered that the educational success of business education students has decreased significantly (Hubert, 2002). This may be due to the fact that kids are not given adequate guidance in dealing with their personality characteristics. The rate at which students fail most courses in business school is alarming, and it's distressing to learn that personality qualities determine the majority of student academic success (Almatier, 2001). Social, familial, religious, and cultural variables, as well as neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, openness to experience, and conscientiousness, all have an impact on students' success in the business education department.
