CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The avoidance of quality problems via a systematic evaluation of educational programs to enhance efficiency is known as quality assurance. At every stage of education, quality assurance is a method of paying attention to the ongoing development of the educational system and gaining employee commitment to quality ideals (Ijaiya, 2009). This means that quality assurance includes evaluating school curricula, monitoring and supervising teaching, inspecting buildings, and monitoring personnel quality to ensure that customers' expectations are met. Quality, according to Latuka, Maharasca, and Strydon (2007), is something that everyone deems excellent and that meets a set of standards throughout the manufacturing process in order to satisfy customers. As a result, quality refers to a product's standards when compared to other products. Management is taking concrete steps to ensure that the system is successfully achieving goals and improving educational institutions. It is a method of efficiently organizing people and situations in order to accomplish specified objectives.
the goals (Abdullahi, 2018). This implies that management considers an organization's available people and material resources, as well as the best use of these resources, in order to achieve pre-determined goals and objectives. Much research has been conducted in the field of quality assurance.Quality assurance and evaluation in Scotland: Promoting self-assessment inside and outside the nation was done by Linda, Sotiria, and Farah (2009). From quality control to quality assurance: A cure for excellent education in Nigerian schools was found by Ijaiya (2009). Teachers' motivation and its impact on quality assurance in the Nigerian education system were investigated by Ofojebe and Ezugoh (2010)
Investigating the establishment of quality assurance in the Nigerian educational system: Implications for Educational Administrators Quality research was carried out by Oyetola, Kayode, and Okunuga (2012).Quality assurance, according to the respondents, has a major impact on teachers' involvement and school leadership. However, there is little, if any, or possibly no research that has focused on quality assurance and management of universal basic education improvement in North-central Nigeria so far. That has given attention to external supervision, classroom-based student assessment, and staff development as critical variables to measure quality assurance, as well as using teacher competency in a safe environment as a critical variable to measure quality assurance. As a result, the goal of this research is to fill in the gaps left by earlier researchers.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Stakeholders, including parents and the government, have expressed concern about the need to enhance the quality of the educational system, resulting in an emphasis on school administration, which is tasked with providing leadership. This is placed against a background in which benchmarks for standards have been established, and it is the responsibility of school leaders to put these standards into practice in their schools. Secondary schools, on the other hand, seem to be suffering from a lack of administrative leadership that will improve quality teaching and learning that is oriented toward achieving organizational objectives. The caliber of pupils graduating from today's schools can not be compared to that of previous generations. Some students in Nigeria now attend school only to get paper credentials, which goes against the educational system's valued ideals. Overcrowding, instructors' attitudes toward work, insufficient funds, failing physical facilities, and a lack of care by some parents for their children's activities, to name a few, all contribute to educational anxiety in Nigeria. As a result of this worry, the problem of quality assurance, which is the foundation of our educational system, has arisen. A student is expected to be valuable in character and learning via dedication to academic activities, not only to the goal of obtaining a paper certificate in the educational process. As a result, quality assurance is clearly required to guarantee successful management of school development.
