EFFECTS OF SCHOOL-RELATED FACTORS ON STUDENTS' EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Education is the most valuable gift a country can bestow on its population, particularly children and adolescents. This is because a nation's or community's growth is heavily reliant on the quality of its education (Titilayo, 1997). The cornerstone for real growth, it is widely accepted, must coincide with the development of human resources. The school, according to Adeboyeje (1995), is a formal organization that has been founded and designed to achieve specific purposes. The school's main purpose is to educate the children and youngsters who will be the country's future leaders. Children have the future in their hands, and they are the pillars that are being constructed and nurtured in schools for tomorrow's duties. If the future is to be affluent, special attention must be paid to the education of youngsters (Pelumi, 1996). When it comes to the education system and finding ways to enhance it, it is impossible to overstate the importance of parents in their children's education. The government is in charge of and funds public schools. Instructors at public schools report to school on a regular and timely manner, and individual students' needs are addressed on a more individualized level, with teachers making themselves available for discussion and advising sessions with parents (Oloruntoba 1999). The purpose of the study is to look at the effect of school factors such teacher availability and quality, instructional equipment and facilities, school location, and class size on public school students' academic achievement. Most parents, according to Dwyer (1995), take their children to public schools due to the exorbitant school fees charged by so-called private schools. Because public schools are the foundation of the educational sector, they give good and qualitative education to the public. As a result, the expectations raised at that level will always effect students' achievement in secondary schools (Gwen, 1998).
