The findings of this research will assist the government and policymakers in developing and implementing strategies to lower the rate of project abandonment in Nigeria.

Shelter has been one of man's most basic necessities throughout his evolutionary path. Our oldest predecessors, primitive man, built shelters to shield themselves from the whims of nature as well as the menace of wild animals and fellow humans. The majority of the literature on human settlement and housing gained sufficient popularity during the industrial revolution and urbanization that swept over Europe and, subsequently, the United States of America.

In Lagos State alone, there are so many cases of illegal structure and building collapses. Recently, there has been a case of building collapse where casualties were recorded. This was due to the use of substandard materials, wrong architectural design and wrong siting of the structure.

Teachers and researchers on Nigerian mathematics classroom practice have also acknowledged that these inconsistencies in students' performance in mathematics can also be traced back to the passive and strict classroom practices employed by mathematics teachers during classroom instruction. There is also much evidence that Nigerian students suffer with classroom tasks that involve higher order thinking, particularly notions that need the display of knowledge, comprehension, and skills.

Causes of building collapse are attributable to various causes. Firstly, structures fall owing to human faults such as defective design, faulty construction, and use of inferior building materials, carelessness, omissions, ignorance, quackery, corruption and sabotage. The second component is natural occurrence such as flood, earthquakes, strong wind e.t.c. However Individual perspectives range dramatically from one another on the professional to blame for building collapse.

The importance of materials in construction work is very crucial because from research, materials compromise appears to have contributed greatly to collapse of buildings than any other variables. Construction Materials are highly necessary and should be seriously looked at so that they might be sustainable to meet present wants and without compromising on the future and yet be able to fulfill the aforementioned future need.
