Liaison in Cameroon English

Abstract

Though Cameroon English speech has received a great deal of attention from both national and international scholars, the area of linking or liaison has either been completely ignored or at best considered irrelevant or nonexistent in Cameroon English speech (Mbangwana, 1987; Simo Bobda, 1994). These generalizations are not strange given that very little work was done on New Englishes in general and on Cameroon English in particular. During this period attitudes towards the new , varieties of English were not very positive as very few scholars were interested in moving away from the conventional wisdom of the time that analysed and described the emerging varieties of English as deficient and not different varieties that could be analysed independently of the native varieties.
